“This training has not only enriched my professional practice and personal growth but has also ignited a passion for advocacy and collective consciousness raising.
Participating in Chelsea’s training and learning about the theories of matrescence, patriarchal motherhood, rage, empowered mothering, and the mask of motherhood has been profoundly transformative both personally and professionally.
As a therapist, this training has enriched my practice in numerous ways. It provided me with a more comprehensive understanding of matrescence, particularly in highlighting the psychological, emotional and spiritual changes mothers experience during the transition to motherhood.
In particular, exploring patriarchal motherhood has been eye-opening in my practice. It has sharpened my clinical understanding of the systemic issues surrounding motherhood, particularly within patriarchal structures. This understanding has enabled me to help clients critically examine and challenge these norms, empowering them to define their motherhood experience authentically.
On a personal level, this training has also been deeply impactful. It has heightened my own self-awareness, critical thinking and reflection as a therapist and as a mother. It gave me language and words for what I myself went through during my own matrescene. It allowed me to feel seen and understood in a deeply meaningful way and has been instrumental in my own healing. I look back at what I experienced as a new mother with sadness but also gratitude, hopefulness and self-compassion. Learning about these theories has given me the opportunity to offer grace, compassion and forgiveness to myself within my motherhood journey.
This training has not only enriched my professional practice and personal growth but has also ignited a passion for advocacy and collective consciousness raising. It has empowered me to use my voice and expertise to advocate for systemic change, challenge societal norms, and foster a more supportive and equitable environment for mothers.
